Personal finance calculators

Four tools for the money questions almost everyone asks and almost nobody sits down to work out. Free, no sign-up, and not one of your numbers leaves this browser.

  • Runs on your phone, not on a server
  • We store nothing
  • No sign-up, no ads

Why these four and not others

These are the ones that answer a question people genuinely ask and whose answer changes something. Net worth tells you where you stand; compound interest, where you could get to; the emergency fund, what protects you meanwhile; and the savings goal, what the thing you want costs per month.

There are no payroll or income-tax calculators here, and that is deliberate. They depend on brackets that change every year and by region, and an out-of-date tax calculator gives someone the wrong number about their own money. We would rather not have one than have one that is wrong.

They run on your phone, not on our server

All four run entirely inside your browser. What you type never travels anywhere, is never stored and is never logged: reload the page and it is gone.

That is not a technical accident, it is consistency. The whole Neto site rests on the app never asking for your bank credentials or connecting to your bank. It would be odd if the calculators did send your numbers to a server.

If you want to keep a result, each calculator has a button to copy the link: the values travel inside the URL itself, so you can bookmark it or send it to anyone without it passing through us.

What order to use them in

If you have never sat down with your numbers, there is an order that saves grief, and it is not the one that usually appeals.

Start with net worth. It is the photograph: it tells you where you are starting from and, above all, whether there is expensive debt hiding that is eating everything else. Without that photograph, any plan is built blind.

Then the emergency fund. It is what stops the first surprise from knocking down whatever you start to build. Plenty of people skip this step and go straight to investing; then the first breakdown forces them to undo the investment at the worst moment, or reach for a credit card.

With the photograph taken and the buffer under way, the other two make sense: the savings goal for what you want by a given date, and compound interest to see where whatever is left over could get to once the rest is covered.

  • 1. Net worth, where you stand today, and whether debt is expensive.
  • 2. Emergency fund, how much buffer actually protects you.
  • 3. Savings goal, what the thing you want costs per month.
  • 4. Compound interest, where the rest could get to long term.

From the calculator to everyday life

A calculator solves a moment: the time you sit down to do the maths. The problem shows up next month, when the balances have moved and redoing it all feels like a chore. It is why most people do these sums once in their life and never come back.

Neto is the part that comes after: you record your accounts, spending, debts and investments, and the figures update themselves, with your net worth calculated daily and your goals showing their progress. Without connecting your bank, in 62 currencies and 6 languages.

The calculators on this page stay free and sign-up free whether or not you ever download anything. They are useful on their own, and that was the point.
