Why investment tracking belongs inside net worth

Liquidity matters

Investments mean more when compared with cash and short-term needs.

Debt matters too

A portfolio alone can look strong while debt quietly changes the real picture.

One view reduces noise

You stop jumping between broker screens, bank apps, and notes.

Why mixing investments and spending makes sense

Keeping investments apart from day-to-day money usually leaves the picture incomplete. Neto puts both together to answer one question: is your net worth growing?

  • Compare liquid money against invested money.
  • Include debts, so the picture isn't flattering by omission.
  • Convert currencies to reach a single global figure.
  • See how much each type of asset weighs in your net worth.

Tracking an investment is not the same as trading it

Neto is not a broker: it does not buy, sell or move your money. What it does is value what you already hold, with prices updated daily, so you know what your portfolio is worth today without opening five different apps.

That distinction matters more than it sounds. If you hold funds at a bank, shares at a broker and some crypto on an exchange, each platform shows you its slice and none of them shows the total. The number you actually want (how much you have invested overall and what weight it carries inside your net worth) appears in none of the three.

Why a return on its own is misleading

"I'm up 12%" says very little without knowing what it is 12% of. On €500 that is €60; on €40,000 it is €4,800. And if you have been contributing monthly, the percentage your broker shows is almost never the one you earned, because every contribution went in at a different price.

So what helps is seeing both figures together: how much you put in and what it is worth now. The gap between them is your real result, in euros, which is the unit decisions are actually made in.

  • Look at the whole, not each position: one that drops 30% may be 2% of your portfolio.
  • Compare against what you contributed, not against the all-time high. The high is a point that already passed and only serves to make you feel worse.
  • Review monthly, not daily. Daily you only see noise, and noise is what makes people sell at the worst moment.
